Villa Alea is a traditional stone house in the historic centre of Hvar Town, unassumingly tucked into a quiet street just steps from the main square and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. A private gated entrance followed by a short flight of steps leads down to the front terrace, where French doors open into a welcoming open-plan living space, dining area, and well-equipped kitchen.
This light-filled ground floor is the heart of the home. The smooth tile flooring, phthalo green shutters, and pure white walls combine to create a soft, neutral palette that is found throughout the home. Original exposed stones emerge on two walls, reminding us of the building's heritage. Furnished with a designer sofa and armchair dressed in different shades of grey, this is a serene and restful space.
A stone staircase leads up to the first floor, which is home to two double bedrooms, both with private shower rooms. The first bedroom features a fully en-suite shower room, while the other has a dedicated shower room located just across the hallway from the bedroom door.
The staircase extends further to the second floor, where you will find the master bedroom. This luminous double-aspect has an ensuite shower room and opens out onto its own little terrace. The terrace is furnished with a couple of lounge chairs and boasts views on one side over the town’s cascading terracotta rooftops; and to the other, the cathedral tower framed by the hillsides behind.
The loving restoration, the owner's excellent taste, and the fabulous location all make Villa Alea a special proposition indeed.
OUTSIDE
When you’re not sleeping, swimming in the sea, exploring the cobbled streets, or dining on the famous brudeta (fish soup) in one of the town’s restaurants, you’ll probably find yourself gravitating towards your wonderful front terrace.
Here, thanks to the high stone wall on one side and fragrant Mediterranean greenery on the other, this inviting terrace is made for shared alfresco living.The elegant high table for six is ideal for sunlit breakfasts stocked with goodies from the nearby fresh market and bakery, sunset aperitifs, or starlit dinners that linger late into the evening.

- Note that construction noise is illegal in this region of Croatia from 12th May – 6th October. If you book outside of this time, there is the possibility of construction noise impacting your stay.
- Restaurants and other establishments mentioned are subject to seasonal availability. Opening and closing dates are determined by the businesses themselves and may vary. Some venues may be closed outside the peak summer season.
- As with all residential areas on Hvar Island, quiet hours are from 10pm to 8am. No music is to be played outside during these hours.

Centred around one of the largest and most beautiful squares in Dalmatia, the town is dominated by the imposing cathedral of St. Stephen and overlooked by the hilltop fortress that offers sweeping views across the harbour and the Pakleni Islands beyond. Narrow stone streets lined with Venetian architecture, boutique shops, and inviting cafés lead down to the palm-fringed waterfront, where superyachts moor alongside traditional fishing boats, and the daily bustle of locals and visitors creates an infectious energy that lasts from morning market to late-night cocktails.
Beyond the historic core, Hvar Town serves as the perfect base for exploring the island’s natural and culinary highlights.
