Only those who really want a slice of true, quiet paradise will make it here. That is because La Villa Bleue is in a secluded bay of Hvar Island’s southern coast, accessible via a 4km/2.5-mile gravel road that winds its way down to the sea. The bay is home only to a handful of houses.
Two complimentary SUP boards and a hard kayak await to aid you in exploring the surrounding hidden coves only accessible by water.
For those with skipper licenses, contact us to arrange a charter that can be moored in front of the villa.
INSIDE
La Villa Bleue’s architecture pays homage to its historic Dalmatian roots while the selective interior design keeps it modern with high quality furnishing and a few quirky vintage pieces. Accommodation at the villa is laid out over three levels. The main entrance door is accessed via the lower dining terrace facing the sea, meaning that you’ll already be awestruck by the location before you’ve stepped into the house. The front door leads immediately into a welcoming open-plan dining room, with a well-equipped kitchen behind, off of which the rest of the accommodation flows. The bright walls, sleek ceramic flooring, and blend of contemporary and vintage touches provide a blueprint for the rest of the house.
Down a few steps is the comfortable living area, with a large, well-cushioned corner sofa and armchair looking towards a smart TV with Netflix. For those who prefer a different kind of entertainment, the living room window provides a captivating view where the sea seems so close, you may begin to question whether you are in a house or on a boat.
On the other side of the dining area, a hallway leads to the first double bedroom which, like all four bedrooms, is equipped with a queen size bed and its own air conditioning. Next to the bedroom, the ground floor bathroom with a walk-in shower.
A staircase leads up to the first floor, which is entirely given over to two bedrooms, which share a bathroom. The master bedroom has direct access to the upper terrace, home to three sun loungers, and the perfect place to catch the sun’s rays while gazing out at your incredible surroundings.
The third floor of La Villa Bleue is accessed via an external staircase that leads up from the upper terrace, which can also be accessed independently from the terrace at the rear of the house. This level comprises the fourth and final bedroom, which contains a queen bed and a single bed, and is equipped with an en-suite shower room.
OUTSIDE
La Villa Bleue is exceedingly generous when it comes to al fresco living. Terraces fan out from both floors, and no matter where you are, you’ll always have a sea-view spot in which to while away the time.
Running along the stone façade at the front of the house is the main terrace that offers plenty of options for sitting, lounging, and dining. Grape vines whisper in the gentle sea breezes, mature pines scent the air, and views pan out over the cobalt blue waters to a distant peninsula.
The master bedroom on the first floor flows out directly onto the panoramic upper terrace that looks out to sea – the perfect place for morning coffee.
Steps lead up from the villa's private parking area to the outdoor kitchen, which is served by a traditional stone barbecue, a wood-burning pizza oven, and a sink and worktop. This is where you'll be able to prepare and indulge in some lazy lunches and convivial times under the stars.
Aside from local konobas dotted along the coast accessible most easily by boat, there are several other dining options in the locality within 5 to 10-minute drives from the top of the gravel road, and of course further afield.

- The secluded location doesn’t mean a loss of connectivity – La Villa Bleue is equipped with Starlink internet.
- There are some sections of the gravel access road to La Villa Bleue that are bumpy and steep, so we recommend guests hire a 4x4 or one with excellent ground clearance. We can of course assist you with procuring such a rental vehicle.
- In the bay, you will find the Adriatic, a handful of houses – and not much else! Please be aware this means you will need to drive up the access road to reach the main road, and from there, varying distances to different amenities (5 minutes to the minimart, 25 minutes to the supermarket and gas station). We can provide a pre-arrival grocery shopping and shopping throughout your stay upon request.
- This remote location is not connected to the grid, and therefore all power comes from the villa's solar panels and back-up generator. We reimagined what off-grid can look like, so guests are welcome to (mindfully) use all of the modern amenities (AC, washing machine, dishwasher) for a maximally comfortable stay. Back to nature, but at its most comfortable.
- Water is delivered to and stored in the villa's private water tank. While there are no restrictions or limits for our guests and the house is equipped for a comfortable, well-facilitated stay, we ask that our guests are simply mindful of these resources and conscious of where the power and water comes from.
- Restaurants and other establishments mentioned are subject to seasonal availability. Opening and closing dates are determined by the businesses themselves and may vary. Some venues may be closed outside the peak summer season.
The Area
La Villa Bleue is situated in Medvidina Bay, at the end of a 4km winding gravel road, between the inland villages of Gdinj and Zastražišće.
Zastražišće is a small, remote village on the eastern side of Hvar, set well away from the island’s main routes. Surrounded by fields, dry-stone walls, and hills, the village has retained a distinctly rural character, with everyday life still tied to the land. There is no historic core per se, but the Church of Saint Nicholas is considered to be the heart of the village. Zastražišće still feels practical, quiet, and resolutely local. A place where time moves at village pace and outside attention remains minimal.
What draws visitors here is that unbelievable level of detachment and privacy, but also access to some of Hvar’s most unspoilt coastline. The surrounding area hides a string of wild, off-the-beaten-path coves such as Vela Stiniva and Pokrivenik, where pebble beaches and clear water reward those willing to make the effort. Dining options are limited within the village itself, but nearby bays and the neighbouring village of Gdinj offer memorable, family-run restaurants focused on simple Dalmatian cooking. Zastražišće suits travellers who actively seek isolation, raw landscapes, and the feeling of discovering a part of the island that 99% of visitors to Hvar never get to experience.
